They welcomed five children in seven years, the last of whom was conceived even after it had become evident that Andrea was not mentally fit. According to reports, Andrea herself had refused to sleep with Rusty after a few incidents, in fear that if she got pregnant again, she might end up hurting the four children who were already in their lives.
But Rusty was adamant — he complimented her maternal nature and eventually succeeded in persuading her to have another child. Yet, the most bizarre thing is, when Andrea went to court in for murdering all five of their kids, Rusty, believing that she would be found not guilty, was fantasizing about having more children with her.
He is an engineer for the space agency; she works for a contractor. Both Yates and Arnold are active in church affairs, including a program called the Stephen Ministry, which trains church members to counsel people weathering difficult times. As part of the ministry, Yates has been meeting with Becky Morris's year-old son. Yates, who visited his ex-wife six weeks ago, told the Associated Press in an e-mail, "Andrea has been aware of [the wedding] for a couple of months, and she wishes me the best, just as I wish her the best.
But Andrea's friend Bob Holmes said that while Rusty had told her he was engaged, she learned of the wedding date only from the public announcement last week. In his own healing process, Rusty has been able to lean on his strong support system to cope with his grief and the complexity of emotions he's had since Andrea's first trial, when she was originally sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of capital murder. Andrea, however, doesn't have the same type of supportive circle.
Rusty speculates that this concern may make Andrea wary of being released, whether that were to happen sooner or later. ET on OWN. Yates was initially charged and convicted of capital murder, but the verdict was overturned and she was later found not guilty by reason of insanity in a subsequent trial.
Yates spends her time at the minimum security Kerrville State Hospital making crafts and watching videos of her children, according to Parnham. She never leaves the hospital and has never sought to be released despite her case coming up for yearly review. Rusty Yates divorced Andrea three years after the incident and later remarried and had a son who is now 8 years old.
His second wife filed for divorce last year, according to court documents.
