Remember David? The gaining of your attention is needed to make you fall into temptation. Many times, this stage cannot be avoided. However, as soon as your attention is gotten, change your focus of attention to overcome the temptation. Contemplation is to give sustained attention, considering a step of action.

It is to observe and ponder on a matter. He actually took some time fantasizing over the sinful act he would soon get into. This contemplation or should I say, discussion, takes place in the mind.

To overcome that temptation, stop the contemplation as fast as possible and do what you know is right; which certainly will mean forgoing the gratification of the flesh.

The best time for a fish to avoid a hook on a line is to ignore that bait. Due to the short time that exists between the time of attention and contemplation, you may not be able to void getting to this stage too.

But, you have the choice to stop at this point. At the point of every discussion, there are only two possibilities. This is the point where you make your choice, either to do what is right or to do what you like. Once your attention is drawn and you have been made to think over it and decide on what to do, action follows. The action here depends on the position of conviction.

But if it is to give consent, then the sinful act begins right here. Your action is either the eventual expectation of God that comes with commendation or the fulfillment of the purpose of the devil for presenting the avenue to sin, which comes with condemnation. If the deal is done and the sin is committed. Overcoming temptation, in this case, is now impossible, except on another occasion. There is no sin that is too big for God to forgive.

God is not the God of a second chance; He is a God of another chance. His chances are unlimited. His mercy is from everlasting to everlasting. His grace is always available to cover your many sins. He promised not to remember your sins anymore.

Of course not! Your old sin-loving nature was buried with him by baptism when he died; and when God the Father, with glorious power, brought him back to life again, you were given his wonderful new life to enjoy.

For you have become a part of him, and so you died with him, so to speak, when he died; and now you share his new life and shall rise as he did. Learning how to overcome temptation is like learning how to win a battle.

The approach may not be the same for every situation, but the good thing is that there is a guarantee for victory. These steps towards overcoming temptations are not mere theories. They are practical, proven, and effective ways that guarantee victory over every form of temptation.

I have implemented all of these methods and I have seen them helpful. More importantly, these are not human wisdom. These ways of overcoming temptations are drawn from the Bible. Everybody experiences temptation toward sin. It is one of the few things in life that is common to everyone on earth. They are simply doing what actually seems right and normal to them. They are defenseless against temptation; they do not have the Holy Spirit to help them overcome their struggles with sin. You, however, are not defenseless against temptation.

God has prepared us to be able to reject sin in our lives. It is SIN. When we are yielding to sin, God will not hear our prayers. Satan knows this, and this is one reason why he works so hard at tempting Christians to sin. Every Christian must learn how to overcome temptation, because we will be tempted. But, by God's grace, we can overcome temptation. In this lesson we are going to learn how to do this. First, let us answer some questions about sin and temptation.

Can Satan make us sin? No , he cannot. Satan can tempt us to sin, but he cannot make us sin. Is temptation sin? No , it is not. The Lord Jesus was tempted, and we know that He did not sin. The Bible says that He was "in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Satan likes to condemn Christians even when they have not sinned. He likes to make them feel guilty for having been tempted by some sin, but it is not a sin to be tempted.

When does sin come in? Sin comes in when we say "yes" to the temptation. We sin when we give in to temptation. The Bible speaks of some sins which are outward sins, and it speaks of other sins which are inward sins. By outward sins, we mean such sins as cursing, lying, stealing, immorality, drunkenness, murder. No Christian should be guilty of these sins. If these sins are still in a person's life, there is no evidence that he has been born again.

But, sad to say, Christians, as well as unsaved people, are guilty of inward sins. By inward sins we mean such sins as pride, jealousy, envy, selfishness, unforgiveness, hatred, lust.

These are the secret sins which the eye of man cannot see. But God sees them, and they are hateful in His sight. We must learn how to have victory over them. Every Christian has a besetting sin. This is the sin that you are most tempted with.

Satan knows your weakest point, and this is where he tempts you most. To have victory over this sin and the other sins in your life, you must learn how to overcome temptation. As Christians, you and I have been delivered from the kingdom of darkness where sin reigns. How were we delivered? We were delivered by our death with Christ. God put us in Christ on the cross. When Christ died, we died with Him; when He was buried, we were buried with Him; when He rose again, we rose again with Him. The Bible says,.

It means that, in Christ, we have been set free from the kingdom of darkness where sin reigns. We are no longer under the authority of sin. This is a great fact, and we are to count on it.

Since we have been delivered from sin's authority, sin has no right to rule over us. We don't have to obey sin any longer. How do we obtain our freedom from serving sin? You can also avoid inappropriate material in magazines, books, television, movies, and music and on the Internet.

I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
