They play a season that consists of games. While baseball has always been tremendously popular in Canada, with the first Canadian baseball game taking place in , much of the play has been centered on North American sport. Canada today has one baseball team in the MLB that regularly plays against teams from the United States.

Baseball was first brought to Cuba by American soldiers. Today, the most popular sport in Cuba is baseball, and there were several leagues throughout the country until the professional sport was abolished in Today, Cuba is the site of loads of baseball talent, and many scouts will visit Cuba to recruit new players for their professional teams. Cuban planters brought baseball to the Dominican Republic in the s, and the sport has remained a popular pastime ever since.

Professional baseball kicked off in , and several professional teams exist within the Dominican Republic. Despite the popularity within the country, the national Dominican Republic Team never does well in international competition. Baseball started in Puerto Rico in when a group of men decided to start a small league. Some of the men who founded the league were Cuban and already understood the rules of the game. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but rather a look at some of the countries most influenced by, and that have the most influence on, the Majors.

Shohei Ohtani, a two-way player on the Angels -- a pitcher and a hitter -- is one of the active players from Nippon Professional Baseball who is most well-known. Suzuki, noted above, retired in March this year with 3, career hits, on top of 1, he compiled in Japan prior to his Major League career. He finished fourth in National League Rookie of the Year voting in In Cuba, the main professional league is the Cuban National Series.

Founded in , the league has boasted many outstanding players, both among those who have gone on to play in the Majors, and those who have not. More than 15 Cuban-born players have appeared in games in the Majors in Brooks Robinson is the only player to ever hit into four triple plays over the course of a career. On September 30, , Joe Pignatano hit into a triple play against the Chicago Cubs , during the last at bat of his Major League career. Through today, he remains the only player in Major League history to end his career hitting into a triple play.
